What is VO2 Max?

VO2 Max measures the maximum rate your body can consume oxygen during intense exercise. Higher values indicate better cardiovascular fitness. Elite athletes typically have VO2 max of 60–85 ml/kg/min.

Calculation used

Resting HR: VO2 = 15.3 × ((208 − 0.7 × age) / resting HR) | 1.5-mile run: VO2 = 483 / (minutes + seconds / 60) + 3.5

The heart rate method combines the Uth ratio with an age-predicted maximum heart rate. The original Uth study tested trained men aged 21–51; estimates outside that group and the approximate rating bands may be less reliable.

What is VO2 Max Estimator (Fitness & Cardio)?

The VO2 Max Calculator estimates aerobic capacity in mL/kg/min using either the resting heart rate ratio or a 1.5-mile run time. The heart rate estimate uses 15.3 times the ratio of age-predicted maximum heart rate to resting heart rate. Results and approximate age/sex ratings are estimates, not measured laboratory VO2 Max.

Designed for accuracy, speed, and privacy, this tool runs entirely on your local device with zero network latency.

How to Use the VO2 Max Estimator (Fitness & Cardio)

  1. 1
Select Resting HR Method or 1.5-Mile Run Test.
  2. 2
Select biological sex for the approximate rating and enter a whole-number age from 15 to 90.
  3. 3
Enter resting heart rate from 30 to 120 BPM, or a recorded 1.5-mile run time using whole minutes and seconds (5 to 60 minutes total, seconds 0 to 59).
  4. 4
Review the estimated VO2 Max, approximate fitness rating, calculation and method limitations.

Formula & Calculation Logic

The resting HR method combines the Uth heart rate ratio coefficient (15.3) with Tanaka age-predicted maximum HR (208 − 0.7 × age). The run method uses 483 / time in decimal minutes + 3.5. The original Uth study examined trained men aged 21–51; application beyond that group is uncertain. Cooper 12-minute and Rockport walk tests are not implemented.

Resting HR: VO2 = 15.3 × ((208 − 0.7 × age) / resting HR) | 1.5-mile run: VO2 = 483 / (minutes + seconds / 60) + 3.5
